INdie Owner Chats: Becca, co-owner of Truce

Chris and Becca Williamson opened their first store in the quirky Cotswold town of Nailsworth in 2016 and 4 years later, opened their larger second store in Clifton Village. Truce stock a huge range of design-led contemporary products for him, for her and for the home.

We asked Becca a few questions about owning an indie business and her Bristol faves…

Favourite product in the shop?

Ooo that’s a tough one as I source so much that I love but top piece right now would have to be the new ceramic mugs by Brutes.

The best thing about being an indie business owner?

I think it’s having the freedom to be creative and adapt quickly which has been especially crucial over the past two years - oh and discovering new small makers to showcase in store.

Why did you choose Bristol to run your business?

We’d had our eye on Bristol for years before we opened, I’m (Becca) from the South West originally and had friends who’d studied and then lived here for many years so we’d often visit and both fell hard for the strong independent spirit and creative scene.

If you could only eat at one Bristol independent, what would it be?

There are so many amazing foodie spots but I think Sonny Stores is our current fave, love the understated, relaxed setting in the middle of a residential area with such incredible Italian inspired dishes.

Do you have a favourite area in Bristol?

Clifton Village (obviously, hehe) but Gloucester Road, North St and Harbourside are all up there too - love it all really and each have their own vibe, that’s what is so awesome about this city!

What are you excited for in 2022?

We’re hoping to finally start some of our own Truce branded products so watch this space!

Check out Truce’s online store here or better yet, pop in and see them over in Clifton or in Nailsea. Follow us on instagram at @inbristol.guide for more about Bristol’s independent scene.
